Is my piano climate-sensitive?

Yes. A stable climate is essential for stable tunings. Since your piano is made largely of wood, it is quite susceptible to the changes in temperature and humidity. In order to reduce the amount of affect this will have, it is best to maintain the piano in the most stable environment possible.

Placement of your piano should be such that environmental changes will affect it the least. For example, do not place it directly on or near a heating or cooling source. Keeping it out of direct sunlight will help maintain the finish and reduce fluctuation in temperature and humidity.

Ideal temperature ranges of 68F to 75F and the relative humidity content of 40% to 45% are best.

If you live in a severely dry or humid climate, contact us so we could advise you of any additional steps necessary to care for your piano, including the installation of a Dampp-Chaser Piano Life Saver System.
